the Willard LLC
Students at Willard visit the Library Learning Center once a week to checkout books and materials. Mrs. Kanofsky, the school librarian, also teaches a short lesson or offers a story time each library time that students are in the LLC. We have thousands of books for our students to checkout as well as books and materials for class projects, group study, book clubs, and more. As students complete books, they are encouraged to return to the library to find new books to read - even if it is not the student's library class day! Some students visit the library almost every single day just before the end of school to return one book and locate a new one to read that evening. Ask your teacher if this is a good option for your student!
We continue to make improvements in the Library Learning Center and plan to continue to update materials throughout the entire year. Library lessons are based on the Illinois Standards Aligned Instruction for Libraries or I-SAIL standards and coincides with classroom lessons including lessons taught using our Reading curriculum. Each lesson is designed to engage your student at an age appropriate level to accomplish Common Core State Standards while providing an opportunity to grow as a reader, a student, a digital citizen, and a member of the Willard Community. Ask your student about the latest discussions about books, poetry, folk and fairy tales, award winning titles, and more.
IN NON-PANDEMIC TIMES, we are always looking for volunteers to help shelve, scan, shelf read, organize, and design. If you are looking for a place to simply help out here at Willard or if you want to let your creative talent shine, please click on the Volunteers link above and fill out the form. If you prefer, you can email us at [email protected] or [email protected] and either Mrs. Kanofsky or Mrs. Reda will contact you as soon as possible.
Located within the walls of the LLC is our math specialist, reading specialist, speech/language pathologist, ELL specialist, Kindergarten resource, and our teacher workroom. We also have a story time area, a classroom area, a comfortable reading area, and thousands of books and materials. Our latest materials include new and popular books and audio Playaways - a device that works like an MP3 player allowing a student to listen to a book while reading along with a copy of the text.
What will be our next new project? Contact us to see what we have in the works!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kim Kanofsky and Mrs. Lisa Reda
